Adult Mechanics Course
Apr 8 2008 - 8:00pm
8-10 pm
Learn to repair your own bike! This is a "basic" mechanics courses that gives you the skills to do a full tune-up, plus more advanced work overhauling rotational systems. Classes cover bike fit, flats, brakes, gears, and adjustments and overhauls of hubs and headsets. Each class meets at the Bikes Not Bombs Bike Shop once a week for 5 weeks, and you bring your own bike to work on and improve. The cost for the full course is $100. For this tuition, you get the knowledge AND your bike gets work that would cost nearly $100 in most shops! These classes will be instructed by our Bike Shop Managers all of whom have years of experience as professional mechanics and specifically teaching to all ages and skill levels.
Contact the Bike Shop at 617-522-0226 to register. Email mattcoe@bikesnotbombs.org with questions about the course.
SPANISH LANGUAGE BASIC MECHANICS COURSE
If we get enough interest this course we'll schedule this course.
We are hoping to build interest in an adult mechanic class conducted entirely in Spanish. It would be taught by Wilson Martinez, one of our head mechanics, who also has years of experience as a mechanic in the Dominican Republic. Wilson doesn't speak much English so only students with some advanced Spanish skills should consider signing up. This is a great way to brush up your language skills and keep them current, while learning some new bike vocabulary! Or pass on this info to Spanish-speaking friends who might not be comfortable in an English language course.
The course content and cost would be the same as the above course. If you might be interested please email Matt Coe at mattcoe@bikesnotbombs.org with "Spanish Language Course" in the subject line, and this will help us decide whether there is enough interest to schedule it.
FUTURE COURSES
If there is enough interest we would be excited to offer more specialized courses such as our Advanced Mechanics Course (a follow up to the basic course with much more depth), our Wheel Building Course (where students learn and build two wheels), or our Women & Trans Basic Mechanics course offering a more welcoming environment than the too-often male-dominated mechanics world. To express interest in any of these, contact the Bike Shop at 617-522-0226 or Matt Coe at mattcoe@bikesnotbombs.org
