Member Workshop: work on your own bike
Finally, the return of our Member Workshops! We're really good at giving young people a place to work on bikes and learn, but that leaves us little time to give adults access to tools and a sharing environment here. So we've brought back the Member Workshops, for now the first Thursday of each month 7-9:30 pm, and we may be able to expand it if we get enough volunteer help. In the future check the website for up-to-date scheduling.
HOW IT WORKS: The Member Workshops happen 7-9:30pm at the BNB Hub at 284 Amory, giving access to bike stands and basic tools so that you can work on your own bike. You may be able to get some advice from other members working on their projects but you should come basically prepared for what you want to do. We do not sell parts at the Hub so you'll need to purchase parts in advance at the BNB Bike Shop at 18 Bartlett Sq, or another source. If you're planning an advanced project check it out with us in advance.
WHO CAN COME: Anyone with a current BNB membership which you have purchased or was awarded to you for a $ donation, bring your membership card to participate (lost it? Contact jasmine
bikesnotbombs.org for a new one). Volunteers, you can also earn your membership here through your work hours, and you trade 4 volunteer credits per hour of Workshop time, just use your volunteer time sheet.
SIGN UP IN ADVANCE: For this Thursday, send an email or give a call to get a message to Carl if you're planning on coming so we have an idea of what to expect. For future Workshop dates, we'll require sign-up to make sure everyone gets a stand.
SKILLED VOLUNTEERS WANTED: If you have some advanced mechanics skills and would like to share with the BNB community, let us know! We'd like to sign up volunteers to take questions and improve these Workshops.
CONTACT: Member Workshops are overseen by Carl Kurz, contact carl
